May 22, 2020
Dear Parent, Students, and Staff:
The end of the school year is in sight and this edition of the Eagle Update is noted for our Class of 2020.
The Renton School District has finalized plans to recognize the accomplishments of our 2020 high school graduates. We have developed two plans that get the closest to the wishes of our seniors while adhering to the new requirements for graduations that were released by the Washington State Department of Health on May 14 (read here).
Option #1: Senior Graduation Walk
Seniors who are on track to meet all graduation requirements will be invited to participate in a Senior Graduation Walk to receive their diploma cover while wearing their cap and gown. This walk will be recorded by professional videographers and photographers. The video of the graduation walk, along with student and staff speeches, will be used to create a virtual graduation ceremony that will premiere on the Renton School District YouTube page on Monday, June 15. If a student is unable to participate in the graduation walk with their high school, their yearbook photo will be used as a part of the virtual graduation ceremony.
It is important to note that this in person “walk” option is possible only if King County is in “Phase 2” of reopening.
Option #2: Virtual Graduation
If we are not allowed to bring our seniors to walk across the stage, we will create a virtual graduation ceremony using student yearbook photos and videotape of speakers. This virtual graduation ceremony will premiere on the district’s YouTube page on Monday, June 15.
The Lindbergh High School Senior Graduation Walk has been set to occur on Tuesday, June 2nd from 9 am to 3 pm. Seniors will be video recorded as they walk across the IKEA theatre at Renton High School. Detailed time slots for each senior for June 2nd is contained in this publication. Parents and seniors are reminded of the special restrictions associated with this event. Seniors, in groups of 15, will arrive at the east parking lot of Renton High School at their appointed time. No more than 2 groups are allowed at any one time. Once seniors check-in wearing their cap & gown, they will be directed to line up at designated numbered spots inside the school. Social distancing will be expected and supervised. Once the senior has received their diploma cover and their picture professionally taken, they will exit the theatre and leave the school immediately. Seniors will be expected to wear a mask the entire time on campus, except when they receive their diploma cover and when their picture is taken. If the senior is driven to Renton High School by a friend or parent, they must remain in the car until the senior returns to the parking lot. No celebration on campus will be allowed. A video link explaining this process is contained in this publication. We all realize the traditional graduation ceremony is not occurring, but the class of 2020 does deserve a ceremony that meets the guidelines associated with those issued by our public health officials. We wish we could do more for our awesome seniors….

Seniors are encouraged to watch this video link as it contains a mock ceremony and expectations for seniors as they are taped for the Senior Graduation Walk.
List of time slots for June 2nd Taping of Seniors
Seniors: Please review the time slot that is designated for you to walk in the video taping of the senior graduation walk. Be sure to arrive 15 minutes before your designated time to check-in with staff outside the entrance to the IKEA theatre. You must be in your cap & gown and wearing a face mask at the time of check-in. Also, you and you alone are checking in. If someone drives you to Renton High School on June 2nd, they will not be allowed to leave their car. Once you’ve walked across the stage and leave the theatre, you must depart from the parking lot.
